Is the full Marathon to Marathon a qualifier for the Boston Marathon?
Yes, it is. Race results are sent direct to Boston following the completion of our race.

Is this a Rain or Shine event?
Yes, it is. In the event of severe weather, the race director may decide to shut down the course. Should that happen, runners will be notified and asked to take shelter at the next water station. Shuttle buses will then pick you up to take you to the finish line. If you refuse to take shelter and continue on the course, you do so at your own risk.

Is this a good race to run as a first time marathoner or half marathoner?
I think it depends on how much of a challenge you want in your first marathon or half marathon. Our course is pretty flat with no more than a 15 foot drop in elevation between Storm Lake and Marathon so we think it is ideal for both the seasoned and new runner. Many runners set personal records at our race.

What type of running surface?
The marathon, half marathon and marathon relay are run on paved asphalt. The 5K is run on paved asphalt and gravel.

Are there restrooms along the course?
Port-a-Pots are located at mile markers 5, 10, 13.1, 15 and 23. At mile 20 there are non-flush restrooms. At the beginning and end of the races there are modern restrooms.

Where are the water stations?
Located every 2.5 miles with stations every mile the last 5 miles. Every station has water and Gatorade with many also having fresh fruit.

Is GU Energy Gel provided?
At mile markers 10, 15 and 21 you will find GU. Please be respectful of the other runners and take no more than one per stop.

Is medical assistance available?
First Responders along with staff from Buena Vista Regional Medical will be located throughout the course and at the finish line. Each water station has a first aid kit.

Can a person ride a bike along the course?
Sorry, bikes are strictly prohibited.

Can a person wear headphones while running the course?
Runners, at their own risk, may use portable listening devices that are not capable of receiving communication. Runners must be able to hear commands and instructions from event staff, course marshals, emergency personnel and police. The courses take place on roads open to vehicles so please ensure that you can hear voices and vehicles.

I was injured after registering for your race. Can I get a refund or deferment until next year?
Sorry, we do not issue refunds or deferments.

Can I change my registration from one race to another?
We will gladly make this change for you. Please e-mail Marilyn at mdjmarathon@hotmail.com or speak with her at packet pickup/registration on Friday night. You will be responsible for any increase in registration fee. Sorry, refunds will not be made if the change in race results in a lower registration fee.

What form of payment is accepted?
If registering on-line at www.getmeregistered.com, you need to comply with their requirements of payment by credit or debit card only. If registering by mail, please send your good check made payable to "Marathon to Marathon" along with the completed registration form to: Registrar, P.O. Box 262, Marathon, Iowa 50565.

At late registration we only accept cash (US currency) or your good check. Please note that there is not an ATM machine on the premises. In Storm Lake there are several banks only a few blocks away. Also, there is no ATM in Marathon.

What are the nearest major airports to Storm Lake in miles?

Can we check a bag?
Your runner's packet is a plastic bag from Fitness Sports that you can use to transport your personal belongings from Storm Lake to Marathon. At packet pickup we have baggage claim tags. Please fill out this tag, attach it to your bag and then before the start of the full and relay races on Saturday, leave your bag in the van next to the Bag Check Flag at the start. If you are running the half marathon, you can do the same at the start of your race. All bags will then be transported to Marathon and left on the west side of the Methodist Church near the finish line.

Are showers available at the finish line?
Showers are available with soap and shampoo provided. You only need to bring a towel. Personal items are left behind every year so please check to make sure that you have all of your personal belongings before you leave.

Is transportation provided to the relay exchanges and start of the half marathon?
There will be three buses marked A, B and C. Relay runners #2 and #3 should board bus A which leaves immediately following the start of the race. This bus will be parked east of the high school at the intersection of Russell and E Milwaukee. Relay runner #4 and all half marathoners should board bus B by 6:10 am. This bus will be parked in front of the high school and will take you to your proper exchange point and the start of the half marathon. Relay runner #5 and if needed, any half marathoners, should board bus C by 6:10 am. This bus will also be parked in front of the high school and will take you to your proper exchange point and the start of the half marathon.

Can I park in Marathon the night before?
You can park at the Marathon Community Center which is across from the finish line. A bus will leave at 4:30 am on Saturday to transport you to Storm Lake. Please note that there will be a Port-a-Pot on the grounds of the Community Center for your use.

What times do the busses leave Marathon to return to Storm Lake?
After the awards ceremony, there will be 3 buses traveling from Marathon to Storm Lake. The first bus is tentatively scheduled to depart at 10:00/10:30 followed by another at 11:00/11:30 and the last one at 1:00/1:30.

Where are race results posted?
The official results can be found at www.fitnessports.com.

Do you use chip timing?
We are excited to announce that this will be our first year using electronic chip timing through Mangled Momentum (MM). MM uses the Jaguar timing system with disposable chips.

Are dogs allowed on the course?
While many runners' dogs accompany them on their daily run, we cannot allow them on our course due to concerns with allergies and additional liability. Service dogs are always welcome.

What locations do you suggest spectators watch the runners from?
Please check out the map on our website. It does not show all of the roads as we have gravel roads every mile or two around the course that you can access the route from. There is a church at the corner of M54 and C43 that is an ideal spot. It is close to the start of the half marathon. There is another blacktop road, C29, that goes east from 160th (M50) 2 miles north of Highway 3. This would take you to about mile 20. We do not block off the roads, but do try to keep as much traffic off the route. At main intersections deputies help secure the route. At the finish line we have bleachers.

Is food available on Friday and Saturday?
Due to construction at the Storm Lake High School, the boosters are not able to do their spaghetti feed Friday night. There are many restaurants in Storm Lake with diverse menus so you and your family will not go hungry. We will gladly provide you with directions and/or additional information so just ask one of us at registration/packet pick up. On Saturday in Marathon you can eat both breakfast and lunch at the Community Center. If you are running the full or half marathon, you will have in your race packet, a meal ticket good for either breakfast or lunch. Enjoy!

Do the hotels offer a late check out time on Saturday?
This varies by hotel so please speak direct with the staff at the hotel where you are staying.
